Hard work paying off

Like I’ve said for a while, when we play as a team, we do a lot better. This is not tennis. Not one individual. We are playing together as a team. That’s when you win, when everybody is chipping in. I am happy to see that we are playing better defensively. Fredi and all the staff, they’ve been working with us. They’ve been working hard with us, and we are going to stay focused on it. We went into Spring Training wanting to get better on defense, and we’re getting better and better. People ask what I’m doing better on defense. I’m using my feet better. It’s about positioning. We’ve been working, and we’re going to keep working at it.

Hi Hanley, they say it is defense that wins championships so it’s good to see a high-profile star emphasizing just how important it is.The home runs get a lot of the attention, but sometimes an inning-ending 6-4-3 is the real game changer when a pitcher has his back to the wall. I must say, you guys have upped the defense (among everything else) even though some players have been playing out of position like Boni and CC. I’m really proud to be a fan, keep up the good work.

    Hey Hanley-
You played really well when you came to San Diego and swept the Padres. Even though the Padres are my favorite team, I was really impressed by the way you played. Your Defense and the team’s overall Defense has been outstanding. Good Luck the rest of the season!

    Hanley-
I love you man!!! You have already brought Hanleywood upon Florida!!! I live in Minnesota and have been a huge Marlins fan for years and you have become my favorite baseball player!! It was fun watching you play in the WBC-the hair was awesome man!!! I hope you arent too upset that the front office made you trim it…keep doing what you’ve been doing and soon everyone will want to jump on the Hanleywood Express and take it to the new Marlins ballpark!!!!!!!! By the way, I love the slot machine thing you do when you smack a homerun-that is just another hilarious and fun thing you bring to the team!! Good luck, keep hot, and keep having fun being Hanley!!! H2R 4 MVP in 2009!!!!!!!!

Hanley, there are two other things you should work hard at:
1– When you hit a long fly, run like hell. No trotting before the umpire signals a homer or the ball is caught. If the ball falls in or it’s dropped, you’ll lose a base. Burn it up until the play is over.
2– Make tighter turns when rounding first and third bases. Those wide jug-handle turns cost you 2 or 3 steps–enough for a good throw to get you out or prevent you from taking an extra base. Do you notice how tight a turn Bonifacio takes? That’s the right way. Ankle exercises will help to prevent sprains.

    hanley,
you’re such a good team player, and it’s great to see you taking a role as a leader. However, as much fun as it is to watch the long ball, i will admit, i’m a sucker for small ball and would really enjoy a bit more base stealing. you should one day at the least be in the 300-300 club with your feet!

Oye tiguere, and the way you’ve been running lately shows you still have all the tools. Some were complaining earlier in the year because you weren’t hussling, not realizing you had that groing issue going on. But you’re playing full max now, sigue ahi.
